Sucking is a natural reflex for infants and small children. This habit makes them feel secure. The problem arises when there is prolonged use of these bad habits. If your infant has a strong sucking reflex, encourage them to use a pacifer. It is an easier habit to break later. The pacifer should not be used past 2 years of age, permanent changes of the mouth can occur.
